1 in 5 women experience Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders; Partnership addresses the critical need for mental wellness resources, offering free personalized, virtual mental health services
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – April 22, 2025 – Willow Innovations, Inc. (Willow), the FemTech leader that revolutionized the breast pumping experience by inventing the first fully in-bra wearable breast pump, announces today its commitment to provide 1 million hours of maternal mental health support to new mothers nationwide. Willow is partnering with Canopie, the preventive maternal health care platform, to offer personalized, virtual mental health services.
According to Postpartum Support International, one in five women experiences Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) during pregnancy and postpartum. PMADs are the most common complication of childbirth. Yet, only 15 percent of women with PMADs are treated, making it the most underdiagnosed and inadequately treated obstetric complication in the United States. Willow's partnership with Canopie will help ensure that mothers can access expert, evidence-based care and guidance to help them thrive during their postpartum journey. Beginning today, new moms can access a suite of Canopie’s cognitive behavioral services at no cost through May 31, 2025. These include a behavioral health assessment to develop a personalized support plan, on-demand therapeutic programs, and clinician-led virtual classes.
“Willow is a relentless champion for new mothers. The incidence rates of PMADs and lack of access to quality maternal mental health care are an urgent problem,” said Sarah O’Leary, mother of two and CEO of Willow. “This Mother’s Day, Willow is gifting new moms something more valuable than flowers—critical and effective solutions for maternal mental well-being. My hope is that our partnership with Canopie will not only impact the narrative about mental health support for mothers but also the outcomes of PMADs.”
From inventing products and feeding solutions that ease the mental load of breastfeeding to advocating on Capitol Hill for stronger maternal well-being policies, Willow has been on a mission to elevate the maternal experience since its founding in 2014 and the introduction of the first fully in-bra wearable pump. The partnership between Willow and Canopie reflects the shared belief that moms deserve better and answers the call to action for tangible solutions to address the increased stress and mental health challenges that American parents face today.
The Canopie core program was developed by perinatal clinical psychologists, physicians, researchers, and new mothers, and it has a proven track record of garnering significant success. Among the Canopie program completers, 98% of moms report a positive change in their emotional health, and 79% of participants with possible symptoms of depression have a clinically significant change in their mood.
Anne Wanlund, Founder and CEO of Canopie, stated, “Given how common it is to struggle during pregnancy and postpartum, mental health support should be as standard as taking a prenatal vitamin. Most maternal mental health conditions and maternal health complications are preventable through early identification and proactive care. By partnering with Willow, we are making a significant stride in destigmatizing maternal mental health and providing mothers with accessible tools and support that can positively transform their lives.”
Willow’s partnership with Canopie is part of the brand’s broader Mother’s Day Campaign. Throughout April and May, Willow will create safe spaces online for moms to access mental health support and resources while amplifying their voices and needs during the postpartum journey. Mom of two and actress-turned-entrepreneur Ashley Tisdale is also partnering with Willow for its Mother’s Day campaign, sharing her personal experience with anxiety and the importance of maternal mental well-being and care.
"My journey into motherhood revealed the often-hidden struggles with anxiety and the critical need for accessible mental health support,” said Tisdale, actress, mother of two, and Willow brand ambassador. “This partnership between Willow and Canopie to donate maternal wellness support and offer resources that many of us mothers need through our parenting experience is a powerful step towards creating a real support system for moms.”
