Read the stories real-life moms are sharing about their experience
What’s something you once thought was ‘just part of being a mom’ that you now see differently?
Breastfeeding.I genuinely thought everyone could breastfeed as if it were something universal. I never imagined it to be as challenging as it can be at times. Especially the first time around. Pumping saved my breastfeeding journey. I now know that isn’t the case and I don’t take my journey for granted.
How has being a military family shaped your experience of motherhood?
Motherhood as a military family is one of the most blessed, adrenaline driven, build your new community every three years. It’s not something that everyone can enjoy, thankfully my foundation is the word of God and that has truly paved the way to be a mother in such a flexible uncertain lifestyle as a military family.
What does feeding your baby look like during moves, travel, or periods of transition?
Well, during moves pumping is essential to maintain supply stress free. Especially during PCS (permanent change of station). Traveling the world also; I make sure I have the proper tools: pumps, milk storage bags, etc.
How have you grown from your first year of motherhood to now?
I believe that learning yourself and your baby will make things so much more joyful. Reminding myself that my baby and I were learning life together for the first time. Examining what I did before and how I could’ve done it differently makes my journey as a mother one year later and as a second time mom is so amazing. I also learned to discern who I take counsel from and who not to. Lastly, loving myself through every season and doing it with grace.

What advice or words of wisdom would you share with an expecting mom who plans to breastfeed?
Well, I would say get informed, make sure you don’t just follow everything you see online but meet with a IBCLC OR CLC to help you pave the way for breastfeeding. Make sure you have that friend you can call at 3am for those challenging nights. Make sure to ask for help. It's important. Mom guilt is real but give yourself love and grace always! Lastly, be unapologetically you.
